But…it didn’t ‘topple’

HAPPY NEW YEAR! It's 2018.  The beginning of a New Year is usually met with reflection, and planning.  As The 98th Meridian Foundation has been inspired by the great writer & intellect, Walter Prescott Webb, we thought we would share a passage from his most-heralded book, The Great Plains, and share a thought: “For two centuries,” Webb wrote, “American pioneers had been working out a technique for the utilization of the humid regions east of the Mississippi River. They had found solutions for their problems and were conquering the frontier at a steadily accelerating rate. Then in the early nineteenth century [...]

Happy Holidays!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM TEXAS! We generally think of a 'meridian' as an imaginary line.  Running through the heart of Texas, the 98th Meridian is not imaginary at all; in fact, the 98th Meridian in Texas differentiates East from West in very visual and meaningful ways.  Different lands.  Different people. At the holiday time, it all comes together...WE all come together; or at least, we HOPE all people will come together in gratitude for these great lands and resources bestowed upon us.

A Key(stone) Question

While this takes the 'look back' - but in view of the events of the day - the question should be raised:  How did those protestors GET to the protest site....?  Did they WALK?  And the clothes on their backs - did they hand-weave those sweaters with home-grown bamboo?  The coffee with which they warmed themselves - where DID that water come from?  How did the water get to that spout? THE POINT:  Everyone participates in this matrix of natural resources:  supply AND demand. It is incumbent upon us all to lead and participate in thoughtful, thorough discussions regarding our water [...]
